God has declared us (or decreed, like a judge in a courtroom saying 'not guilty') righteous when we put our faith in Christ, and now we are to BECOME righteous as we work out our salvation with fear and trembling. In my case, I am working out my salvation with fear, trembling, and a host of other emotions and reactions. I sin and fall short constantly and it breaks my heart. I know I am forgiven, but it still hurts when I know that I am called to be more than that, and to grow in righteousness and obedience.
