Jami Smith Biography

From football arenas to awards presentations, we show our satisfaction when we shout, clap, and scream. Jami Smith, veteran worship leader and native Oklahoman, recently experienced that expression of approval after attending a Broadway show in New York. "At the end of the show, we did a standing ovation because it was amazing. I was clapping so hard, my hands were stinging."

"It is an amazing thing to imagine a room full of people clapping so hard that their hands hurt and they don't even realize it. And they are clapping for God, for all that He is-and for all that He will do which is harder to clap about."

Brennin Hunt, collaborator and guitar player in Smith's band, co-wrote the title track for Bravo God. "We sat in my basement one afternoon and opened The Message [Eugene Peterson's contemporary version of the Bible]," says Smith explaining the album's title. "Immediately, Psalm 29:1 popped out at me: 'Bravo God, Bravo.' I was overwhelmed at the thought of shouting 'Bravo' to and for God because this epitomizes worship. I longed to write an album full of songs for God where we sing of His forgiveness, mercy and greatness, and then together, shout, 'Bravo, Bravo God, to your name we give you praise, Bravo God.'"

Smith's journey shines through her music and like everyone's trek it is full of highs and lows but evident throughout her life as well as this album is an unswerving trust in God and His word.

Produced by Will Hunt (Shane & Shane), the record's musical quality engages the listener and reflects of the mood of each song. "Bravo God" is not bubble-gum Christian pop. It includes honest songs about the changed life and loving as Jesus loves-even a soul-stirring lament that cries, "Jesus, when will you come to take us home?"

"Bravo, God" is a work of worship dedicated to the God Smith calls "The Beautiful." Her hope is that her music will help others "see The Beautiful."
