Love Leaves Its Mark Lyrics
By Trevor Morgan, Sony/ATV Milene Music / Years Later Music (ASCAP) and Kyle Matthews, BMG Songs, Inc. / Above the Rim Music (ASCAP)
He's working the crowd
He's twisting a prayer
God needs your help
To keep him on the air
A grandmother weeps
Watching from home
And fills out a check
So she won't feel alone
Beware of Saviors
Who talk about love
And bear no scars
There's no way around it
Love leaves its mark
Love leaves its mark
Thomas had doubts
He wanted a sign
He knew how the heart
Confuses the mind
One look at the cross
Had taught him the truth
A love that is real
Is branded with the proof
Beware of Saviors
Who talk about love
And bear no scars
There's no way around it
Love leaves its mark
Love leaves its mark
You know I care
And how hard I try
I'd like to believe
That I'd lay down my life
But I've let you down
And I'll make mistakes
There's only One
Deserving of your faith
Beware of Saviors
Who talk about love
And bear no scars
There's no way around it
Love leaves its mark
Love leaves its mark
Story Behind The Song:
Beware of Saviors who talk about love
And bear no scars
There's no way around it
Love leaves its mark
This is probably the most misunderstood song that I've ever written. People think that it's abrasive and "in your face," but in reality it is a song about one thing - Jesus.
Kyle Matthews and I wrote this as a response to modern culture. It seems that everybody is searching for truth, for something to believe in, and a lot of times people are manipulated into following false religions simply because they say all of the right things.
There is more to truth than well-constructed sentences and eye-catching book covers, and that's what this song conveys.
