Bethany Dillon Album: Bethany Dillon Track: Lead Me On
Lead Me On Lyrics
Shoulder to the wheel
For someone else's selfish gain
Here there is no choosing
Working the clay
Wearing their anger like a ball and chain.
Fire in the field
Underneath a blazing sun
But soon the sun was faded
And freedom was a song
I heard them singing when the day was done
Singing to the holy one.
Lead me on
Lead me on
To a place where the river runs
Into your keeping, oh.
Lead me on
Lead me on
The awaited deliverance
Comforts the seeking...lead on.
Waiting for the train
Labelled with a golden star
Heavy hearted boarding
Whispers in the dark
Where are we going--is it very far?
Bitter cold terrain
Echoes of a slamming door
In chambers made for sleeping, forever
Voices like thunder in a mighty roar
Cry to the Lord.
Lead me on
Lead me on
To a place where the river runs
Into your keeping, oh.
Lead me on
Lead me on
The awaited deliverance
Comforts the seeking...lead on.
Man hurts man
Time and time, time again
And we drown in the wake of our power
Somebody tell me why.
Lead me on
Lead me on
To a place where the river runs
Into your keeping, oh.
Lead me on
Lead me on
The awaited deliverance
Comforts the seeking...lead on.
Lead me on
Lead me on
To a place where the river runs
Into your keeping, oh.
Lead me on
Lead me on
The awaited deliverance
Comforts the seeking...lead on.

'Early on in the making of this record, Josh Moore asked me what I thought about doing a cover song. One day he showed me this song by Amy Grant that I'd never heard of (note that I was born the year it came out) and I flipped! What an incredible creation. I remember sitting in the studio with all of the musicians the day we recorded it, listening over and over to the original version of this song. It already was so dynamic, we knew there was no way to add to it or take away from it, but we were all so excited to try and create something new out of it! What I love most about "Lead Me On" is that you can sink your teeth into it--- the imagery in the lyrics, "Bitter cold terrain/Echoes of a slamming door/Chambers made for sleeping/Forever/Voices like thunder in a mighty war" is so rich and beautiful. It is such an honor to have covered this song-it brings so much to the record.' - Bethany Dillon
