Sarah Kelly Album: Born To Worship Track: You Overwhelm Me
You Overwhelm Me Lyrics
You overwhelm me Your goodness, Your kindness You overwhelm me Your faithfulness, Your mercy
Even in the morning I'll praise You I will put my trust in You
I come before You and lay down my crown You are the King of my life You lift my head and I'm blameless before You You are the King of my life
You overwhelm me Your nail scars, Your pierced side You overwhelm me The beauty of Your sacrifice
Even in the night I will praise You I will put my hope in You
I come before You and lay down my crown You are the King of my life You lift my head and I'm blameless before You You are the King of my life
All glory, all honor, all mercy, all power You are the King of Kings
Holy, holy, holy is the King of Kings
Song Description: "This was the 2nd choir piece I ever wrote. The first version of this song was definitely more ballad Disney style and makes me laugh still, but give me a break I was 8 years old! Though I decided to leave most of the choir parts off for this recording, I know they will pop up in my future as they are too close to my heart to let go of completely. The story that inspired this song was the woman who reached out for Jesus' garment as he passed by her. (Mark 5:25-34) How absolutely shamed her life was, even though she did not probably deserve the lonely painful life that she had. I tried to catch the moment when she touched Jesus, and was instantly healed. That thought birthed the words "you lift my head and I'm blameless before you." I wrote the 2nd verse just this year, so this song is literally 20 years in the making! One of the most surreal and beautiful moments of divine purpose I have ever experienced was hearing this song sung by Alvin Slaughter and Phoenix First Assembly on a Sunday morning that I was just passing through. They didn't know who wrote it and I still don't know how they heard it, probably from a college student, because this was one of the favorite congregational songs I introduced in my 5 years as worship leader to a college group in Rockford, IL." - Sarah Kelly
