Phil Wickham Album: Cannons Track: Sailing on a Ship
Sailing on a Ship Lyrics
A voice is on the wind It calls me further in I'm heading deeper into Your heart Your mark is on my chest My sails filled with your breath You guide me by the light of the stars
I'm sailing on a ship that's bound for life I wrestle with the wind against the tide I leave it all behind to each for more I'm sailing on to Your golden shore
Though skies go blue to grey And I'm thrown from wave to wave You still will hear these lungs singing hard With every storm I face I find a greater grace That pulls me deeper into Your heart
I'm sailing on a ship that's bound for life I wrestle with the wind against the tide I leave it all behind to each for more I'm sailing on To where the water's running sweet and bright The sun is rising in the eastern sky I leave it all behind to reach for more I'm sailing on to Your golden shore
Song Description: "I grew up loving the Chronicles of Narnia, and one of my favorite books in that series is called "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader". This song was inspired by that story. It's about a group of people who set off from the shores of Narnia in search of some long lost kings who sailed off in the same direction years before. There's also rumors that if you sail far enough east you'll get to Aslan's (Jesus') countryÃ...c Heaven. One of the characters on the boat is this mouse named Reepicheep. This mouse was given a promise when he was young that one day he'll reach Aslan's country should he continue heading east, and ultimately, this song is about him. Well, it's actually about usÃ...c peopleÃ...c believers. Reepicheep just gives us a great picture of our own lives. See, out of all the kings and powerful men on the journey the one who never seems to loose heart is the mouse, the one with the promise. We as Christians have been given a promise as well, a promise that once we are covered by the love of Jesus that nothing can separate us from it. And one day we will be with Him because of that love, and nothing can take that promise away from us. This is such a source of comfort and strength for me during the "storms" of life." - Phil Wickham
