Album: Sunday!
Track: Not As This World

Not As This World Lyrics

Blinded by shining tears
I've walked out into fields just to find you
Thirsting for living water

I've struck the rock in anger just to remind you

Holy God you promised me your peace
And I'm still here holding on, please release me

CHORUS
Everything I want may not be what you want for me
Not as this world gives do you give
I'm starting to see
Release me

Five thousand miles from home
I come into my own - is this blessing?
I've found riches in my exile
I'm strongest when I'm fragile - you keep me guessing

Holy God I'm starving at your feast
Can't help feeling so unworthy - please release me

CHORUS

Song Description:
"This track is another with a very personal confessional lyric and an odd title. It's based on something Annie Dillard said regarding Jesus' words in John 14:27: "I do not give to you as the world gives." God often gives us the opposite of what we ask Him. Eventually, we are able to look back and realize just how wisely and patiently He has dealt with us, and we're amazed and thankful. Nevertheless, this is the song of an exasperated believer trying to figure it out." - John Ellis (Tree 63)
