Downhere Album: Wide-Eyed and Mystified Track: I Miss You Here
I Miss You Here Lyrics
Hey, how are You today? It's nice to know You're always here to stay Hey, if I'm to be sincere I believe You're close to me But still, I miss You here
Can You hear me? Can You reach me even now? On my worst day I am innocent somehow But I miss You here right now
Hey, I've thrown it all the way I can't believe the distance I can stray Hey, how did I get here? I've so subtly veered so many times And now I miss You here
I need to tell You how I miss You here right now
Hey, how long will You delay? I can't go on a day without You near I miss You here
So turn my world around You somehow reach all the way down From Heaven to the ground Yeah, somehow Turn my world around I need to tell You how I miss you here right now
Song Description: "This is one of the darkest songs I've ever written. It explores the aftermath of disobedience to God. It also works as a counter-balance to "Forgive Yourself." Certainly, as a believer in Christ, my sins are forgiven by the price Jesus paid when he died on the cross and rose again three days later. But what are the immediate consequences of my disobedience? Surely there are some because I've been there. Just like in any human relationship, even between the best of friends, when trust is breached, there is a healing period. When I sin against God, I willingly put a rift in our friendship. Because of my disobedience, I don't feel the closeness to Him that I so enjoy when I have a clear conscience. My prayers don't seem as effective. I feel lonely and useless. And I believe the grief is felt on both ends. Because God is a father, He is saddened when His children disobey the commands He has put in place for their good. "I Miss You Here" is an expression of living in the duality of knowing eternal forgiveness, yet feeling the very tangible effects of sin. The song also offers hope, showing how His great love can break through even that kind of darkness and bring renewal again and again." - Marc Martel (downhere)
