Riley Armstrong Biography

Individual - The word that most embodies ones thoughts when meeting Riley Armstrong for the first time. His contagious smile and soft-spoken voice make you feel as if you have just been reunited with a brother. Rileys individuality shines through his music, an intriguing mix of acoustic guitar and hip-hop rhythms. Growing up in Dapp, Alberta, Canada, a small farm community, Riley cultivated a style all his own. Moving to Vancouver at age 18, his individuality set him apart and led to his signing with the then-newly formed Audio Adrenaline record label, becoming their inaugural Flicker Records release.

Enthusiastic describes Rileys outlook on life. Not one to be brought down by the obstacles of life, Riley emanates an enthusiasm which lifts people up, both on stage and off. His enthusiasm for the message of the Gospel propels him to create music to touch all who hear it.

Intelligent lyrics mark Rileys songs, inviting listeners to experience what they are hearing. Lyrics such as "From a colorless past, you asked me to the paint store" (from Reborn) and "Ive got to decide if Im going to fly or let gravity keep me grounded" (from 9 point 8) connect with listeners, relating everyday struggles we all share.

Entertaining live performances are a direct result of Rileys enthusiasm for the Message. Audience members are pulled into performances as they listen to Rileys stories and hear his lyrics come to life before them. The barrier between audience and performer is nonexistent as Rileys friendly nature reaches from the stage and embraces his brothers and sisters creating an atmosphere of celebration drawing all closer to the Throne of God. Riley has shared before friends at Franklin Graham Crusades, music festivals, camps and various Christian television programs.

Innovative instrumentation during performances elicits applause and surprise from those who see Riley live. Using his acoustic guitar, turntables and sampling, Riley weaves a tapestry of sounds that is both awesome to hear and amazing to see. Its Acoustic Revolution Music, a blending of acoustic guitar, hip-hop rhythm and intelligent lyrics. Riley strives to bring that element of innovation from his live performances to his recording. "I guess Ive just always been a fan of surprise," admits Riley, "my music is built for those who like to put the headphones on and sift through all the different layers of sound."

Encouraging believers is a priority for Riley. While some view Christian music as simply "preaching to the choir," Riley reminds us that "the choir," particularly teens, needs encouraging. They need to see that creativity and individuality are not things of the world, but rather they belong to God. Rileys creativity, from his music to his crafts, is a great example of the gifts God gives his children, gifts given to be used for Him. Riley relates, "I really like to inspire people to laugh, cry, think, and dance. With music, words are given a certain respect that conversation does not always make room for. With music, to the listeners I can become a friend who understands and an encouragement to those who are searching for the truth - all of this before I even get to say hello!"
